Rethinking the American Academy Bar

The bar of the American Academy in Rome is an important gathering place for the community, where our history is remembered and our present is lived. It was time to rethink its display of Fellows’ portraits, to better represent who we are today and where we are going—while keeping the past firmly in mind. I worked on this project with a dedicated team, recognizing how important this space is to so many people. We look forward to welcoming new Fellows (and more!) back here soon.

Clockwise from upper left: new images behind the bar; Alessandro back at work; the bar as it was; celebrating a job well done; the historic portraits in their new location across the room; staging our work.
